Our Motivation

This year, in collaboration with the Law Society, ELSA, Women in Law, FLAC, Law Review, and the School of Law at the University of Galway, we are growing mo’s and participating in the physical challenge for all the law students and professionals. The legal field is one that demands a great deal from its students and professionals, and it's no secret that the pressures of this industry can have a severe impact on mental health.

Recent reports have highlighted concerning trends. Anxiety is increasing among law students and professionals, while a stigma surrounding seeking help for emotional or mental health issues persists within our community. The combination of these growing mental health challenges and the reluctance to address them directly demands our immediate attention.

What's even more concerning is that studies have revealed that the next generation of law students and legal professionals are already being diagnosed with mental health issues before they even set foot in law school or enter the legal profession. This paints a stark picture of the challenges we face as a community. Our commitment to Movember is driven by the urgent need to change this narrative. We believe in raising awareness, breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health, and providing much-needed support for those who need it.

MILESTONE ALERT

We have reached our second target - €2500. That is truly special, and I would like to take this time to thank all of you for your efforts. Our dedication to this initiative currently places us 39th nationwide, and more importantly, this places us as the no.1 society among all student societies in Ireland. This would not have been possible without every single one of you. What we are doing here is special, and it will only get better! Our donations help Movember fund the following projects for 2023:
Certainly! Here are the five most significant Movember-funded initiatives:

1. Mental Fitness in Sports:
- Movember partnered with the Rugby League World Cup, providing mental fitness training to thousands of young athletes, coaches, and officials, promoting mental well-being in sports.

2. Innovative Prostate Cancer Therapy:
- Co-funding a trial with the Australian Government, Movember supported a new, safe, and effective PSMA-targeting therapy for high-risk localised prostate cancer, in conjunction with surgery.

3. Scaling Mental Health Projects:
- Through the Scaling What Works program, Movember is amplifying innovative mental health projects globally, targeting the well-being of young boys and men in community and workplace settings.

4. Peer Support for Testicular Cancer:
- Movember's Nuts & Bolts digital resource offers user-friendly information and peer-to-peer support for men with testicular cancer, addressing the most common cancer in young men.

5. Tackling Prostate Cancer Progression:
- Movember launched a global initiative with 30 research teams to identify optimal ways to prevent the progression of high-risk prostate cancer to advanced, fatal disease.

Our next target - €3000. WE GOT THIS!!

A chairde,

We have completed week 1 of Movember, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start.

Speaking of better starts, I hope your mo’s are growing better than mine, because I think I need to start taking some supplements, as after eight days there’s… nothing!

However, back to business:

Firstly, we have broken last year’s record of €1450 in 5 days.

Secondly, we are about to break this year’s target. If we reach €2000 today, it would mean that it took us 8 days to complete a target that we initially intended to complete by the end of Movember.

Lastly, we rank in the top 50 nationwide and top 3 amongst the student societies in Ireland. We are only €100 away from the no.1 spot in the student societies ranking
