Our Motivation

Men’s Health Month is coming to an end, however, the conversation shouldn’t. As a former professional hockey player I have dealt with, and seen many different forms of mental health related issues stemming from severe head injuries.
As always I would like to use this platform for a positive and meaningful purpose, this time to help bring awareness and change to this issue. So for the next 100 days we will commit to 100 days of cold plunging. If that is not possible for you, you can choose anything that challenges you for the next 100 days and join us.

Athletes tend to go quietly into the background as they have been raised to be tough, to not show their weakness, and not let anything bother them. There are far to many men suffering in silence because they are too afraid to reach out and say they need help. We have noticed that it is far tougher to ask for help relating to an injury that is “invisible”.

Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence.

I have three months left as the Caretaker on the Great Blasket Island and I intend to grow this (not so luscious) Mo out until I leave in October. On top of that I will do a 5 minute daily cold plunge in the North Atlantic Ocean to help raise awareness.
