We work closely with our global men's health partners to ensure collaboration, transparency and accountability for every project we fund. We monitor this through report cards which detail what we seek to achieve, key measures and the impact.
Prostate Cancer
"Together with the brightest minds in research, we aim to achieve significant breakthroughs in the hope of beating prostate cancer. Our disruptive funding approach identifies revolutionary ways to accelerate health outcomes by creating strong, global collaborative teams." Dr. Colleen Nelson, Global Scientific Chair.
Men's Health
"One Mo can help change the face of men’s health through the powerful conversations created globally during Movember. Men have the chance to confidently discuss men’s health with people around them, resulting in men taking action early, helping change and save lives." Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programmes
Mental health and suicide prevention
“The number of men taking their own lives around the world is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Movember is working to ensure all men and boys look after their mental health and are comfortable to seek help when they’re struggling.”
Brendan Maher, Global Director, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Testicular Cancer
“Despite being the 2nd most common cancer in young men, testicular cancer is often a forgotten cancer due to early detection and treatment. Our projects look at underinvested areas such as improving access to healthcare services and treatment options for relapse” Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programmes.

Advanced Studies into the Genetics of TGCT (Testicular Germ Cell Tumour)

What we seek to achieve

This body of work is an extension to previously funded work that helped us better understand the genetic basis and risk for testicular cancer in the population. Professor Clare Turnbull has created an exceptional portfolio of knowledge in this area and is regarded as a world expert. This particular project will leverage the work already undertaken and extend it to create a deeper knowledge of the biology of testicular cancer.

About the project

From 2013 – 2016 Movember funded some significant work by Professor Clare Turnbull at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in the UK. This work was focused on understanding the genetic risk of developing a testicular cancer in young men.

The body of work produced some outstanding results and has identified several candidate genes that appear to drive the risk of testicular cancer. The results of these studies have been published (and attributed to Movember funding) in very high-impact scientific journals. Clare Turnbull is now regarded as one of the leading researchers into the genetics of testicular cancer.

Subsequent to the work that has been funded by Movember to date, Movember recently determined to further financial support to enable four new pieces of work:

  1. Advanced meta analysis of the existing data to further explore the genetic risk for testicular cancer
  2. Pilot phase implementation of a risk-profiling program for men in the general population
  3. Exploration of the genetic basis for resistance to chemotherapy, and
  4. Whole genome approaches to learning more about the oncogenesis of germ cell tumours (how do tumours start growing)
