Community Programme
Movember started in 2003 with a group of 30 mates who came together to have some fun and bring back the moustache. In 2010, there were more than 450,000 Citizens of Movember around the world all doing their part in changing the face of men’s health.
The Mo Bros & Mo Sistas who make up this community are now found everywhere and come from international and local companies, sports clubs, unis, restaurants, bars and retail to media, music and arts scenes. By becoming walking billboards for men’s health, Mo Bros, supported by Mo Sistas, have spread positive health messages far wider than ever anticipated and continue to raise awareness and funds for men’s health through their passionate support of Movember.

Every Citizen of Movember has a different experience during their Mo growing journey but we do have a few tips on how to get started, bring Movember to your community and make the month your own.
- Register on the website and become or pick a team captain in October.
- For the rest of the month, get your mates to register & join your team. Remember Mo Sistas can register as team captains or to join your team.
- Order a free poster pack from the merchandise area on the website to promote Movember to everyone around you or let people know you’re registered online. We even send you some suggested wording for emails and use on Facebook or Twitter.
- Put the challenge out to other local companies, rival sports clubs, other departments in your office and see who grows the best Mos and has the biggest team.
- Bring everyone together on 1 Movember to celebrate the start of the Movember journey and kick off the month – throw a shave down event with a local barber or have a registration party at your local.
- Make sure everyone starts Movember clean shaven and then let the Mo's grow.
- As the Mo starts to kick in, share the experience with your fellow Citizens by holding mid-month events. Host events at local bars or restaurants, organise a team trip to a local barber, have a Movember dress down day or bake some cookies to sell. It’s down to you - it’s your Movember.
- Let the local media know what you are getting up to and ask them to champion your mo growing efforts.
- Ask to say a few words at a meeting or party to let everyone know why you’re growing a mo and let them know how to support you and your team.
- Celebrate your journey as a Citizen of Movember by throwing a Mo Party. Go to the merchandise area on movember.com to register for a free Mo Party pack from October.
- Or join your fellow Mo Bros and Sistas at a Gala Parté for the chance to be crowned your city’s Man of Movember or Miss Movember.

Movember at Work in the Community
Barbers
In cities and towns around Ireland, local barbers got on board and provided expert grooming advice and free mo styling for dedicated MoBros in their respective areas. These barbers provided fun hubs and hangouts throughout the month for guys who donated their upper lips for Movember.
Restaurants
Movember Ireland receives some fantastic support from the hospitality sector with Coppinger Row hosting the inaugural Cook like a Man dinner while Diep Noodle bars re-branded for the month to Diep “Mo-oodle” and raised awareness through their huge network of customers. Movember provides great way for staff at restaurants and bars to engage customers and connect with an important message.
Mo-Running
Dublin was home to the 1st Mo Running event for Ireland and over 600 fancy dressed Mo Bros & Mo Sistas turned up to stride it out around Phoenix Park- It’s a great way to get everyone involved and encourages the Movember community to get out and do something a little healthy.
Rugby
"I'm delighted to take part in Movember this year. My newfound facial hair has proved such a distraction for the opposition that I am confident it can make a serious impact on our big game" - Cian Healy- Ireland Rugby player, IRE
